2016 GOP Hopeful Carly Fiorina: Environmentalists Are To Blame For ‘Man-Made’ California Drought

First we had the GOP denying climate change and global warming existed. Then we went through the phase of Republicans swatting away questions about those issues with the line, “I’m not a scientist.” And now we have Carly Fiorina doing her own verbal jujitsu by saying the drought in California is the fault of environmentalists.

Fiorina, the failed former CEO of Hewlett-Packard and likely 2016 GOP Presidential nominee, was speaking to fellow looney bird Glenn Beck when she decided to jump the shark and proclaim that California’s drought, which has led to water restrictions in the Golden State, is “man-made.” She then continued with this nonsense:

“With different policies over the last 20 years, all of this could be avoided. Despite the fact that California has suffered from droughts for millennia, liberal environmentalists have prevented the building of a single new reservoir or a single new water conveyance system over decades during a period in which California’s population has doubled.”

If the problem could have been avoided, why did Fiorina wait until now to share her “solution” with all of us? Probably because she wasn’t running for President then.

Fiorina, however, in classic right winger fashion, then decided to trash everyone else for the problem. She said the shortage of water in California was:

“(A) classic case of liberals being willing to sacrifice other people’s lives and livelihoods at the altar of their ideology. It is a tragedy.”

Hang on just a second, Carly. The fact that it doesn’t rain or snow enough for several years is the fault of liberals and environmentalists? Really? That sure puts a new spin on what we all learned regarding weather patterns while we were in school. Maybe Carly was out sick the day that was discussed.

And beyond that, her facts are specious, to say the least. And just building reservoirs isn’t the solution, either, because you need rainwater or snow runoff to fill them with. As Lester Snow, the executive director of the California Water Foundation, said just last year:

“If we had two more surface storage facilities that we built 10 years ago — pick any of the two that people are talking about — they would both be very low right now. There’s a tendency to pull down our surface storage when we get mildly short of water.”

So Fiorina is just trying to play politics with a very real problem for which she has no answer. Typical. Bobby Whithorne, a spokesman for the group NextGen Climate, called Fiorina “irrational,” and added:

“For a science denier to opine that Democrats caused the drought in California is about as irrational as believing someone who failed at running a business in California and then failed as a candidate for office in California has any cause to be running for the highest office in the land.”

What I find most odious about Carly Fiorina is the fact that her business experience proves she knows next to nothing about what she touts as one of her main credentials to be President. But she is just another overpaid flunky who made her millions off the labor of workers whose jobs she later turned around and outsourced. In other words, she’s a typical modern-day Republican. They pretend to have all the answers, but all they possess is lots of hot air and lies.
