Bob Ruscoe is one of millions of Americans who voted for Donald Trump in November, even though doing so was against his best interests, especially on the issue of health care. And now he’s practically begging Trump to do a lot of thinking and soul-searching before he agrees to sign legislation which would repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Speaking to CNN, Ruscoe said:
“We’ll have to see what pans out. It may not be totally repealed. It may be something else. I hope something will remain in place.”
Ruscoe, who once weighed in excess of 300 pounds, was unable to get coverage prior to the passage of the ACA–also known as Obamacare–but in 2014 was able to get insurance. He currently has a plan which covers him and his wife for $338 a month, a far cry from the $1,150 he would have to pay for a policy should the ACA be repealed by the GOP-led Congress and signed by Trump.
Why did Ruscoe vote for Trump when the GOP nominee repeatedly said he would repeal Obamacare as one of his first acts? Ruscoe explains:
“I did what I thought was correct for the overall good of the country. I think economic strength cures a lot of things.”
How much has the ACA helped Ruscoe? He freely admits “the health care act has taken worry away.”
Yet he voted for Donald Trump anyway. As my grandmother used to say, that’s like cutting off your nose just to spite your face.
Like Ruscoe, I’m also on Obamacare and have been delighted with the coverage, especially since I couldn’t afford a policy prior to passage of the ACA. But unlike Ruscoe, I had enough sense not to cast a ballot for a man who cares only about himself and would sell the souls of his grandchildren for the right price.
