Federal Court Filing Suggests Nancy Pelosi Is About To Hit Trump With More Articles Of Impeachment

While the House of Representatives only passed two articles of impeachment against Donald Trump, it now appears very likely that more charges are coming.

According to a brief filed in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, attorneys for the House Judiciary Committee noted that they still need testimony from former White House counsel Don McGahn because the committee is considering filing additional articles of impeachment against Trump, the Hill reports:

“‘If McGahn’s testimony produces new evidence supporting the conclusion that President Trump committed impeachable offenses that are not covered by the Articles approved by the House, the Committee will proceed accordingly — including, if necessary, by considering whether to recommend new articles of impeachment,’ the panel wrote in its filing.”

McGahn is also seen as being an essential witness in the upcoming impeachment trial in the Senate, provided that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) allows witnesses to testify and permits documentation that would bolster the case against Trump regarding the Ukraine scandal which has led to charges that Trump abused his office and has obstructed Congress and its investigation into the matter.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) sent a letter to McConnell last week in which he requested four witnesses for the Senate trial: Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney; former National Security Adviser John Bolton; Office of Management and Budget official Michael Duffey’ and top Mulvaney adviser Robert Blair.

The filing by Judiciary Committee attorneys also argues that it’s essential that the court rule on whether or not a president can claim absolute immunity and block testimony from key figures in the Ukraine scandal:

“When the Committee subpoenas another Presidential aide — whether as part of its ongoing investigations or in future investigations — it is likely again to confront DOJ’s theory that Presidential advisors are absolutely immune from compelled Congressional testimony. The Court should address and reject that theory now.”

If the evidence supports more articles of impeachment against Donald Trump, rest assured that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is going to let the Judiciary Committee file them and the full House vote on them. The future of the American republic is at stake, and Pelosi isn’t about to let Trump get away with crapping all over the Constitution.
