D.L Hughley is not shy about expressing himself, and he has even decided to offer a theory on why Donald Trump has suddenly risen to the top of the polls for the 2016 GOP Presidential nomination.
Hughley, questioned by a reporter from TMZ at the Los Angeles Airport, said:
“I think the more racist stuff Trump says, the better he does in the polls. If he said n****r, he’d be elected tomorrow. Anybody that takes Trump — Trump being president is like Flavor Flav winning a spelling bee. I just don’t know how they take that seriously.”
Gotta admit I agree completely with Hughley. How can you take a party that embraces a man such as Donald Trump seriously? What are they trying to lock down, the angry white guy vote? I’m pretty sure they’ve already got that in the bag, as they do in most elections.
The comedian also said:
“I think he’s turned the whole thing into a reality show. How sorry are the other people running if Donald Trump is their best choice? How bad can your self-esteem be hurt when you’re getting your ass beat by Donald Trump in a political event.”
An excellent point, don’t you think? Trump loses his beloved “The Apprentice” and decides he’ll turn the election into a reality show, complete with ridiculous soundbites, bizarre visuals, and the constant patter of the slightly off-kilter eccentric rich guy who loves to say embarrassing things.
This week’s debate will tell us a great deal about the other Republican contenders who are trailing Trump in the polls. Do they dare take him on and call him out on his comments about Mexican immigrants? Or do they appease him and silently pray he doesn’t spout off something else that makes them look guilty by association?
As someone who has advised political candidates in my career, my advice to the others on the GOP stage would be this: Go after Trump or be forever known as one of the spineless automatons who dared not risk their future in order to set a bully straight on the facts.
