On Tuesday, more than 800 pages of documents surrounding the various search warrants in the case against Donald Trump’s former personal attorney and fixer, Michael Cohen, were released by federal prosecutors in New York, and while some of the pages were heavily redacted, what we were able to see suggests that President Trump and his son, Don Jr., are under investigation by prosecutors working for the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY).
Barbara McQuade, the former U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, noted in an op-ed she wrote for USA Today that based on what we know and what we can surmise, there remains just a couple of suspects who are mentioned in those redactions:
“That leaves ‘Individual 1,’ described in the charging document as ‘the president of the United States,’ and, perhaps, Donald Trump Jr., who signed a check that Cohen says was reimbursement for the hush money payments, or anyone else whose involvement has not yet been disclosed. While we may not know who remains under investigation, these redactions mean that least some portions of the campaign finance scheme are still under scrutiny, and that more charges may be filed.”
And that’s exactly the same conclusion reached by former Watergate prosecutor Nick Akerman, who said during an appearance on MSNBC Tuesday evening:
“The first big takeaway is that Donald Trump and Donald Trump Jr. are under investigation. The only reason that this has been redacted is because of an ongoing investigation. The two people that we know that the U.S. Attorney’s office is looking at is Donald Trump and his son. So, this does not augur well for either of them.”

There has been speculation in recent days that the report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller may not recommend indicting or charging the president, but with the SDNY on the trail of the entire Trump family and the Trump Organization, an absence of indictments from Mueller is a long way from exonerating the Trumps. As a matter of fact, the SDNY has fewer restrictions than Mueller’s team, which is focused on the 2016 election and Russia.
The Trump family is going down. Every shred of evidence and documentation we have proves that to be true. Now it’s just a question of when it happens.
