Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has been in the news a lot lately as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee because his committee is now in the middle of a battle over the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to be the next associate justice of the United States Supreme Court.
Over the past couple of weeks, Grassley has become one of the main Republicans who seems intent on making sure Kavanaugh is confirmed, and he’s been making remarks about Dr. Christine Blasey Ford — who has accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault — that sound like outright threats.
Why is Grassley so intent on pushing through the nomination of a man accused of trying to rape a young woman? Seems like it would make more sense for Grassley to urge the White House to pull Kavanaugh’s nomination and send another name to the judiciary committee.
But here’s something Grassley has never adequately explained: Why did he sit next to a Russian oligarch at the National Prayer Breakfast in 2017?

Senator Grassley sure looks happy in that photo, doesn’t he? Could that be because he was enjoying his bacon and eggs, or might there be a more sinister reason for the grin on his face?
Not long after sitting with the Russian oligarch, Grassley began speaking out in opposition to the Russia investigation being conducted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Grassley even took a page from Donald Trump when he said about the FBI:
“A cloud of doubt hangs over the FBI’s objectivity.”
So, perhaps it’s time for Robert Mueller to take a long look at Senator Grassley. Then again, he probably already has, and all of the GOP traitors will be exposed in due time.
