Donald Trump On Closing Mosques In America: ‘I Would Do That…I Think It’s Great’

Granted, we all knew that Donald Trump was a loose cannon, but it was kinda fun (come on, admit it) to watch him throw the GOP into disarray as 2016 approaches. And seeing him insult other Republicans at the debates was a bit of a guilty pleasure.

But now we have this lunatic–and GOP frontrunner–saying that he thinks closing American mosques and invalidating the passports of American Muslims is a great idea.

Hey, Donald, I gotta ask: WTF, man?! No, really: WTF?!

Speaking to Stuart Varney on the Fox Business channel, Trump was asked about a British proposal which is being debated in parliament:

“They’ve got a whole new series of proposals to deal with this, including withdrawal of passports from some of these people who’ve gone over just to fight…and closing some mosques.”

Would Trump be in favor of doing something similar in the United States. He didn’t even think it over before he blurted out:

“I would do that. Absolutely, I think it’s great.”

Varney, trying to inject a smidgen of sanity into the conversation, countered with:

“Can you do it? Can you close a mosque? We do have religious freedom.”

Trump’s reply proves that this guy cannot ever be elected to any position of political power:

“Well, I don’t know. I mean, I haven’t heard about the closing of the mosque. It depends, if the mosque is, you know, loaded for bear, I don’t know. You’re going to have to certainly look at it.”

Translation for those who are not fluent in Trumpspeak: Freedom schmeedom. If I’m the Prez, I’ll do whatever I want to. Don’t like it, I’ll just call you a terrorist and slap you in prison.

What Varney should have asked is this: Where would that end? You start by closing mosques, then you move on to synagogues, and also all the churches. Down that road lies tyranny.

Time to say what needs to be said: Donald Trump is a dangerous cancer on the body politic who must be defeated at the ballot box and via the media. If we fail to do so, we have no one but ourselves to blame when King Donald decides to crown himself as the American Caesar.
