How many members of the Trump family are involved in the Russiagate matter? Well, we know Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating the president, his son, Donald Jr., and also son-in-law Jared Kushner. But now it appears that First Daughter Ivanka Trump may soon see her name on an indictment.
Just last week, NBC News reported on the Trump Ocean Club in Panama, a project which was called “Ivanka’s baby,” and was partially financed by money from Latin American drug dealers and members of the Russian mafia. Ivanka was the main contact person for the Trump Organization when construction began on the project.
And in 2014, Ivanka was also the driving force behind the Trump Tower Baku in Azerbaijan, which it was later proven received part of its financing from the Iranian National Guard. Ivanka and the Trump Organization were intimately involved in every aspect of the Baku project, including the design and landscaping.
Would the Panama and Baku deals have violated any federal laws? Well, it seems likely that they might well have been in violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which expressly prohibits American companies from making a profit off any illegal overseas deal. The New Yorker, which wrote about the Baku deal, noted:
“In May, 2012, the month the Baku deal was finalized, the F.C.P.A. was evidently on Donald Trump’s mind. In a phone-in appearance on CNBC, he expressed frustration with the law. ‘Every other country goes into these places and they do what they have to do,’ he said. ‘It’s a horrible law and it should be changed.’ If American companies refused to give bribes, he said, ‘you’ll do business nowhere.’”
Ivanka Trump, it would seem is fond of involving herself in questionable business deals, much like her father. The anti-corruption group Global Witness recently has noticed this trend, too, writing:
“Trump’s current wealth has depended in part on securing significant infusions of untraceable foreign funds.”
So, does Robert Mueller have a sealed indictment that includes the name of Ivanka Trump? Almost certainly.
