Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren says she is delighted that Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is running for President and that he brings a lot to the debate on the future of America.

Warren, speaking at Middlesex Community College in Lowell recently, remarked:

“I’m glad to see him get out there and give his version of what leadership in this country should be. I think that Bernie Sanders is going to play out a vision for America and that it is important for people to hear what he has to say.”

Senator Warren has repeatedly said she will not seek the Democratic nomination for President next year, but it is widely believed that she is unofficially advising the Hillary Clinton campaign. Sanders and Warren are widely seen as two of the most progressive and widely-respected members of the Democratic Party.

Warren was also asked about the recent death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore while he was in police custody. She stressed that police departments need to work to rebuild the ties between police officers and the communities they serve:

“People are angry and frustrated, and they have a reason to be. That never excuses violence against the police, but we need to have a more serious conversation about what’s gone wrong in Baltimore and other places throughout this country and how to repair that.”

The senior Senator from Massachusetts added that the frustrations felt by the residents of Baltimore must be dealt with:

“It’s something we must address. We have shoved this problem out of the spotlight for years and that’s been part of what’s erupted now in Baltimore.”
