Every member of the GOP, flush with victory and now in control of both Congress and the White House, is going out of their way to try and normalize the behavior of their deeply flawed President-elect. It’s a bit like watching a loving mother defend her son even though she can clearly see the evidence that he’s a serial killer.
Today on CNN, it was Utah Congresswoman Mia Love, who was asked by Jake Tapper if recent tweets Trump had sent out where he said terrible things about the workers at Carrier and the local union leader Chuck Jones bothered her. Love replied:
“Look, nobody is perfect. One of the problem areas is how you respond. You still have to represent everyone. Whether they supported you or not, you are the president of the United States. You don’t represent one side versus another. You are supposed to make life better for all Americans. So, if you’re going to make America great again, you have to make it great again for everyone. I think that he — he reacts quite a bit. When someone pushes him, he pushes back. That can also be a downside. I think that’s one of the things we have to keep in check. As a leader of the free world, I think it’s important to make sure that you’re not just reacting. that you’re being thoughtful.”
True enough, but when has Donald Trump ever been thoughtful instead of reactive? Try never. He always goes personal and he always attacks. So why didn’t Love just say that and add that Trump needed to act in a way that dignifies the office he is about to hold? Why? Because she, like every other Republican, is scared of Trump and his childish temperament.
So allow me to say what Congresswoman Love didn’t: Donald Trump is a grown man who acts like a spoiled teenager. He is lower than pond scum, a liar, a cheater, a con artist, and a serial sexual abuser of women. He is unfit to clean public urinals, let alone hold the highest office in the land, and he may well be the downfall of this nation, which was great long before he showed his rodent face on the scene.
