Gun Nuts Show Up At Chicago Church To Heckle Priest Speaking Against Gun Violence

Gun violence is at an all-time high in the great city of Chicago, and some residents of The Windy City held a rally Thursday at St. George’s Catholic Church to discuss the issue. The featured speaker was Father Michael Pfleger, who has long been a critic of the National Rifle Association (NRA).

But Father Pfleger’s speech was interrupted on several occasions by pro-gun extremists who heckled him for daring to suggest that guns are part of the problem in Chicago, or anywhere in America. Pfleger told the crowd:

“I’m just tired, tired of the NRA. Tired of them prostituting themselves and buying politicians in this country. I’m tired of gun manufacturers and John Riggio from Chuck’s (Gun Shop) making money off the blood running down our streets and our children laying in cemeteries. Title guns like cars. You title a car, title a gun.”

That certainly sounds reasonable to me, but the gun lobby and their minions try to convince us that if you make people title a gun the same way you do a car, the next step will be for the government to take away everyone’s guns. Just like they’ve taken away all the cars.

To this peaceful, rational message for sanity amidst the mayhem caused by guns in America, the NRA could only respond with loudmouthed protests. When you have no counterargument, all you can do is attempt to shout louder than the person you disagree with.

Pfleger also reminded the crowd that it’s time for the country to focus on the problems which are killing thousands of our citizens each and every year:

“This is an American problem and America must address it. If we care about what’s going on overseas, we better care about what’s going on in the streets of America.”

What does the gun lobby offer in response? More guns, more blood, more tears, and no answers.
