Granted, we all know that Donald Trump is an obnoxious jerk who says things he later likes to claim he didn’t mean that way. Just this week the Donald (whom I’m thinking of renaming Hamster Hair) made rude comments about Carly Fiorina’s face and then said he was referring to her “persona.”
And in 2013, His Hamster Hairness (catchy, yes?) took to Twitter on the anniversary of the attacks on the United States and tapped out this bit of bizarre and hateful trash which he then retweeted a day later:
“@realDonaldTrump: I would like to extend my best wishes to all, even the haters and losers, on this special date, September 11th.”
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 12, 2013
Who exactly is he referring to when he says “haters and losers?” Even if this is a reference to Al Qaeda, is that really appropriate on a day set aside to commemorate the deaths of thousands of Americans? I don’t think it is.
Does Trump know this tweet was a mistake? Well, it was recently deleted from his account, so I’ll let you answer that question for yourself.
Trump represents all that is worst about America, especially the America we have so frequently projected to the rest of the world via our foreign policy: arrogant, insensitive, brash, loud talking, unconcerned with the suffering of others. I hear some on the right wonder, “But why do they hate us?” Need you ask?
Don’t misunderstand me: What was done to this country on 9/11 was vile, evil, cowardly, and completely reprehensible. Innocent people were slaughtered in the name of a perversion of a peaceful religion.
But here is what I’m trying to convey: When I think of the term “Ugly American,” the person who comes to mind is Donald Trump. And that is why Donald Trump is destined to lose in the end. Doubt that? Look at the tweet above.
