2016 GOP Presidential contender Dr. Ben Carson, who loves to wave his holier-than-thou credentials in everyone’s face, may have just earned the title of Year’s Biggest Hypocrite.
Carson, who has repeatedly said that Planned Parenthood should be defunded because a tiny fraction of their services involve abortion, also did research on aborted fetal tissue while still a practicing neurosurgeon.
Dr. Jen Gunter, an OB-GYN and pain medicine physician, says Dr. Carson published a study with three other colleagues in 1992 that described using:
“Human choroid plexus ependyma and nasal mucosa from two fetuses aborted in the ninth and 17th week of gestation.”
And yet Carson proudly proclaimed during a recent appearance on Fox News:
“At 17 weeks, you’ve got a nice little nose and little fingers and hands and the heart’s beating. It can respond to environmental stimulus. How can you believe that that’s just an irrelevant mass of cells? That’s what they want you to believe, when in fact it is a human being.”
Carson’s campaign, when contacted by media outlets for comment on the revelations, did not respond to requests. Guess they’re still trying to formulate a new lie to counter the ones already told on numerous occasions by the candidate.
Fetal tissue, it should be noted, has been used for a variety of medical purposes, including research on an Ebola vaccine, blindness, and HIV.
But Carson has said that the very fact Planned Parenthood exists and provides fetal tissue for research makes him wonder:
“How far we have drifted in terms of our humanity.”
And just how far have you drifted in terms of your honesty and integrity, Dr. Carson? You attack those who do research with fetal tissue and say Planned Parenthood should not receive any federal money, and yet you did research on fetal tissue yourself.
Just chalk it up to the common practice of Republicans: They apply one standard to themselves and another to everyone else.
