Mike Pence Is Now A Primary Focus Of The House Impeachment Committee

There’s an old expression we all probably heard when we growing up, and it certainly applies to Vice President Mike Pence: “If you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas.”

For three years, Pence has been ever the dutiful toady for his boss, Donald Trump. No matter what disgusting things the president did or said, Pence always rushed to Trump’s defense. He also served as a sort of emissary between the administration and the evangelical community.

But with the Ukraine scandal seeming to expand further with each passing day, Pence finds himself as a primary focus of the House impeachment inquiry, and that means he too could find his name written on articles of impeachment.

USA Today reports that documents filed by the chairmen of three House committees leading the inquiry — Intelligence, Judiciary, and Oversight — make it clear the investigation is expanding to include “other Trump administration officials that ‘may have been involved in the illicit effort to get Ukrainian help for the president’s campaign.'”

That same report notes that Pence is indeed one of those Trump administration officials who is included:

“The letter cites reports that Pence may have been aware of the contents of the president’s July call in which Trump repeatedly pressed Zelensky to investigate a Ukrainian gas company whose board members had included Biden’s son Hunter.

“And the letter says Pence’s absence from Zelensky’s May inauguration may have been related to ‘efforts to put additional pressure on Ukraine to deliver on the president’s demands.'”

Recently, the impeachment committee also requested documents from the vice president:

“The Democrats said in their letter to Pence that failure to comply will be evidence of obstruction of the House’s impeachment inquiry and ‘may be used as an adverse inference against you and the president.’

“The chairmen of the House committees leading the investigation said they’re investigating the extent to which Trump ‘jeopardized national security by pressing Ukraine to interfere with our 2020 election and by withholding security assistance provided by Congress to help Ukraine counter Russian aggression, as well as any efforts to cover up these matters.'”

The impeachment committee is not playing games. And if Trump, Pence, or anyone else in the administration tries to stonewall, House Democrats aren’t going to be patient or play games. Instead, they’re going to add more charges and more individuals to the list of those being charged.

As for Mike Pence, all of this couldn’t possibly happen to a more deserving hypocrite.
