Mitch McConnell Just Got Caught Committing Economic Treason

Recently, the Washington Post blew the lid off a growing scandal surrounding Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), proving that McConnell lifted sanctions on a Russian oligarch in exchange for the building of a $200 million aluminum processing plant in Ashland, Kentucky.

Specifically, McConnell blocked a Senate measure that would have kept sanctions in place on Oleg Deripaska, a the owner of the Russian aluminum giant Rusal. Deripaska is known to have close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin and is also connected to the Russian mafia. Deripaska’s ties to Russian organized crime have earned him a spot on a State Department list that prevents him from entering the United States.

And as Rachel Maddow explained perfectly Wednesday evening on her show, here’s how McConnell sold out to Russia and Deripaska:

“In this particular instance, his state, an economically disadvantaged part of his state, got a $200 million investment from a kremlin-connected oligarch immediately after McConnell personally stepped in to make sure sanctions on that oligarch were dropped, despite his role in what happened to our election in 2016 and despite bipartisan support even from his own party for those sanctions. But don’t just look back at this. Look forward. Right? I mean, the FBI says Russia’s going to do to our election in 2020 what they did to it in 2016.”

Even worse, even if a Democratic president who follows Trump wants to reimpose sanctions on Deripaska and Rusal, would that even be possible in light of what it would mean to the economy of the Bluegrass State? Maddow laid out the bind the Rusal deal places the country in:

“You’re not going to be able to sanction him no matter what he does to our 2020 election or whatever else he does at all. It would strangle Kentucky in the process. There would be hundreds, if not thousands of American jobs riding on anything you did to that Russian guy’s company or, frankly, anything you did to bother him. He now holds all of those American jobs in his hand. The U.S. Government does anything to bother him, he can take them away at will. You can’t do anything to his company, not without him exerting that leverage over Kentucky in response. And that damage has already been done.”

Mitch McConnell has committed economic treason. He has given a Russian company a foothold in the United States where it can do as it pleases and more easily exert influence over our national security via threats and outright bribery.

While Donald Trump is a clear and present danger to the United States, it now appears that Mitch McConnell is the biggest threat we face as a nation.
