National Security Expert: Expect ‘Major’ News From Robert Mueller Very Soon

According to a national security expert who spoke to Boston Public Radio, Special Counsel Robert Mueller is close to announcing some “major” developments in his investigation of possible collusion between members of Donald Trump’s campaign and Russian operatives.

Juliette Kayyem told WGBH:

“I think it is safe to say that before Thanksgiving … something’s going to drop with Mueller. The pace is too much right now. Every 12 hours we’re now dealing with a piece of this story at a pace we haven’t seen.”

Kayyem said the reason she’s expecting new revelations in the Trump-Russia probe can be traced to the current White House and GOP obsession with the infamous dossier compiled by British intelligence agent Christopher Steele. That dossier, which alleged that Russia had compromising information on President Trump (including allegations of sexual deviance), has become the object of a counter-offensive by Republicans, who are attempting to say it proves that the dossier was part of a smear campaign by the Clinton campaign.

The Washington Post reported this week that the Clinton campaign did indeed pay for the research that led to the compilation of the dossier, but it had originally been set in motion by one of Trump’s GOP primary opponents. That led Trump to try and say that he was a victim:

Even if the Clinton campaign did pay for opposition research on Trump, that’s a far cry from cooperating with a hostile foreign country–in this case, Russia–to help swing an election in favor of Trump.

Kayyem also told WGBH that she thinks the actions of the White House in recent weeks regarding the dossier are a warning sign that Mueller is closer than he’s ever been to proving his case against both the president and some of his top associates:

“This is so close to the Oval Office now, if not in the Oval Office, that all of this [dossier news] to me is just background noise to what Mueller is going to deliver. This is more than an obstruction charge. There is something big underlying the obstruction.”

Former FBI double-agent Naveed Jamali echoed Kayyem’s comments during an appearance on MSNBC Thursday evening. Jamali told host Joy Reid:

“I think that these people are worried and the best they can do is do a preemptive attack on whatever it is that’s coming. The fact that these things are coming out now, when there’s no reason to rebut anything, is for lack of a better word, just ‘curious.’ I think it’s exactly what you’re leading towards, which is there is something coming, they know about this, and they’re preemptively trying to distract the American public from something fairly big that’s coming down the pike.”

Sounds like Robert Mueller is very close to a slam dunk case on Donald Trump.
