NEW POLL: 38% Of Trump Supporters Wish South Had Won The Civil War

Those who support Donald Trump have been called many things: Trumpers, Trumpites, and even Trumpies. But as it turns out, you can add a new name for those who love the Donald: Blatantly racist assholes who wish the South had won the Civil War.

Yes, a new poll which was recently conducted in the state of South Carolina shows us that 38% of those in the Palmetto State say they wish the South–with its rabid defense of slavery–had prevailed in the Civil War.

Public Policy Polling conducted the survey which also showed that a third of all Trump supporters think it would be great to add another group to his proposed ban on Muslims coming to the United States. The group they want to add? Homosexuals.

Here’s what else the poll found:

“There’s also 62/23 support among Trump voters for creating a national database of Muslims and 40/36 support for shutting down all the mosques in the United States, something no one else’s voters back. Only 44% of Trump voters think the practice of Islam should even be legal at all in the United States, to 33% who think it should be illegal. To put all the views toward Muslims in context though, 32% of Trump voters continue to believe the policy of Japanese internment during World War II was a good one…”

As a native Southerner, I find the results of this poll to be especially offensive, but not the least bit surprising. Here in Georgia I have heard the whispers of whites who see African-Americans, Muslims, or homosexuals and roll their eyes as they ask, “What is wrong with them?”

The much better question to ask would be, “What is wrong with me?” as such a person contemplates their reflection in a mirror.

I may be white, heterosexual, and Christian, but unlike so many of the Trump suppoters, I don’t think what is right for me is right for everyone else. I beleive that’s called having an open mind and being non-judgmental. Isn’t that we are all supposed to aspire to as Americans and as human beings?
