The National Rifle Association (NRA) is once again cranking up its propaganda machine in response to new federal rules from the Obama Administration that are designed to keep the mentally ill and domestic abusers from acquiring guns.
The Justice Department is planning to implement at least a dozen new regulations related to guns while President Obama is still in office.
The NRA, in their typically hyperbolic manner, calls the new rules an attack on the Second Amendment and also claims the Administration is full of “gun grabbers.” Luke O’Dell of the National Association for Gun Rights said:
“It’s clear President Obama is beginning his final assault on our Second Amendment rights by forcing his anti-gun agenda on honest law-abiding citizens through executive force.”
Sure they are. Because we all feel safer sleeping in our beds at night knowing that the mentally ill and wife beaters have access to an arsenal.
Michael Hammond, legislative counsel for the Gun Owners of America, even tried to defend the right of those who commit domestic abuse owning guns:
“That could be a person who spanked his kid, or yelled at his wife, or slapped her husband. The Obama administration is trying very hard to disqualify people from owning a gun on the basis that they are seeing a psychologist.”
Next thing you know, they’ll be rounding us all up and putting us into concentration camps, just like they did in Nazi Germany!
The NRA, as you might expect, also had to weigh in with their assessment of the regulations:
“A person who experienced a temporary reaction to a traumatic event or who has trouble handling household finances may well be treated the same as a violent psychopath. Not only is this unjust and stigmatizing, it creates disincentives for those who need mental health treatment to seek it, increasing whatever risks are associated with untreated mental illness.”
Here is a fact about the NRA that I have understood and accepted for years now: They are nothing more than a mouthpiece for the gun and ammunition manufacturers across this country and around the world who do not give a diddly-damn about the Second Amendment. These merchants of death and destruction only care about enriching themselves while blood continues to flow in American streets.
The NRA is a bunch of lying hypocrites who will stoop to any level in the hope of making sure the United States remains the most heavily armed and violent nation on the planet. They are the problem, and they offer absolutely no solutions.
