O’Reilly Says ‘Reverse McCarthyism’ Is To Blame For Stars Shunning Trump Inauguration (VIDEO)

When in doubt, just create a conspiracy theory. That’s certainly Donald Trump’s go-to strategy, and now it appears that same approach has been adopted by his good friend and longtime cheerleader, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly.

On his show Tuesday evening, O’Reilly alleged that A-list celebrities aren’t willing to perform at the upcoming Trump inauguration, which is their right to do. But instead of just chalking it up to the fact that most stars don’t lean to the extreme right politically, O’Reilly said it was an example of “reverse McCarthyism.”

O’Reilly went on to elaborate on his ridiculous claim:

“The harsh truth is that there is reverse McCarthyism going on in the entertainment industry. A number of entertainers believe their careers will be harmed should they associate with a new Trump administration. It’s an awful state of affairs. Talking Points believes that enough is enough with the anti-Trump movement. Man won the election. Give him a chance. Respect the process and stop the nonsense.”

Reverse McCarthyism? Really, Bill? Let’s take a moment and examine just how ludicrous such a statement is: Joe McCarthy accused people of being disloyal to their country, had them blacklisted, and in many cases ruined their lives because they once attended a meeting where (gasp!) communism was discussed. McCarthy was a hateful, evil sack of excrement who did what he did for attention and political ambition. McCarthy was a cancer on this country and eventually got what was coming to him.

Entertainers who refuse to perform at the Trump inauguration are not harming anyone, they are merely exercising their right to not associate with a man they disagree with on nearly every issue. Even though they won’t be showing up to the party, Trump will (unfortunately) still be sworn in as the next president.

As for respecting the process and giving Trump a chance, none of us are obligated to do that, either. Trump very likely won the election with the assistance of a hostile foreign government. We don’t have to accept him as legitimate, just like Republicans refused to accept President Obama for the past eight years.

So, Bill, have a seat and put a cork in it. Millions of us will never accept Trump as our president.
