Pennsylvania Mayor Who Posted Image Of Obamas As Apes On Facebook May Be Forced To Resign

Charles Wasko is the Republican mayor of West York, Pennsylvania, and he just loves posting right-wing crap on his Facebook page. But now his online habits could wind up costing him his job.

A couple of months ago, Mayor Wasko decided to share this with everyone on Facebook:

In February, Wasko posted a picture of a chimpanzee on his wall, along with this caption:

“Most think it is Obama’s picture……sorry its Moochelles baby photo.”

Or perhaps you would prefer the one he put up that was aimed at NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick and the accompanying text which reads:

“Would the suppressed millionaire, NFL quarterback, who would not stand for the National Anthem please point out which of these guys are black so we can remove the offensive flag. [sic]”

Members of the West York City Council say they will ask for Wasko’s resignation at the next council meeting, which will be held on Monday, October 3. One of them, Shawn Mauck, had this to say:

“I almost don’t know what to say. I kind of want to throw up.”

Shelley Metzler, a GOP council member, was even more upset by what Wasko posted, commenting:

“I would punch him in the mouth if I could get away with it.”

When contacted by a local newspaper, Mayor Wasko defiantly declared the he refuses to be “politically correct, I will say what is on my mind and what I believe in.”

It would be nice if the mayor simply tried being decent and human. To make such a derogatory posting about the President and First Lady of the United States is totally unnecessary. While a person may disagree with someone’s policies or political party, there is no need to use personal attacks in order to make your point. Too many on both sides of the aisle seek to demonize their opponents. It’s one of the reasons the atmosphere in Congress is so poisonous.

We have problems that need to be solved in this country. But we will never accomplish anything with hatred and bile.
