Rachel Maddow Says She’s Preparing For Trump By Studying Hitler

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow is one of the sharpest, most intelligent people on television. She graduated from Stanford University and was a Rhodes Scholar, one the highest academic honors any student can receive. And she says she’s been reading a lot lately about Adolf Hitler. Why? As preparation for a possible Trump presidency.

In an interview Maddow gave to “Rolling Stone” magazine, Maddow said of particular interest to her are the first few months of Hitler’s reign as chancellor of Germany, which took place in 1934. She said she sees parallels to 2016 and the rise of Donald Trump:

“What is amazing is the Republican Party that picked him. They had 330 million people to choose from, and they’ve decided that he is the best one to be the standard-bearer of one of the two major parties of the greatest nation on Earth.”

Maddow added that she is still trying to figure out why the GOP electorate chose Trump to be their standard-bearer:

“Like, talk to me, Republican voters! What’s the worst-case scenario for America if he wins? It can be pretty bad. You don’t have to go back far in history to get to almost apocalyptic scenarios.”

Interviewer Andy Greene then asked Maddow:

“Is part of you worried we’re living through the first few chapters of some dystopian science fiction novel?”

To that, Maddow replied:

“Over the past year I’ve been reading a lot about what it was like when Hitler first became chancellor. I am gravitating toward moments in history for subliminal reference in terms of cultures that have unexpectedly veered into dark places, because I think that’s possibly where we are.”

Maddow is hardly the only person who has made the correlation between Trump and Hitler, or even Trump and Stalin. All three are strongmen with an ability to make millions abandon reason and logic in favor of fear and hatred. But we should remember that Hitler died alone in a bunker, defeated, a pathetic man who took his own life with a gun.

  1. “…But we should remember that Hitler died alone in a bunker, defeated, a pathetic man who took his own life with a gun.”

We should also remember that Hitler never had his hands on a nuclear arsenal.
