Think, for just a moment, about what the Trump administration has “accomplished” over the first 50 days in office:
- The Muslim ban was struck down by a federal court and the revised ban is also under judicial review.
- The “great wall” Trump promised will be paid for by taxpayers, not by Mexico, as Trump repeatedly promised.
- The repeal and replacement of Obamacare is stuck in neutral, with both Democrats and conservative Republicans declaring it dead on arrival.
Appearing on Politics Nation with Al Sharpton, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow said the Trump team has squandered the first half of their initial 100 days and have nothing to show for their efforts:
“If you just look at what they’ve done in terms of policy, it’s interesting they haven’t been able to do anything successfully on any of the stuff they like to brag about, they like to talk about, that he campaigned on. [The] Muslim ban has been a disaster.”
Maddow also pointed out that even Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has admitted that Mexico will never agreed to pay for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, and then she added:
“The health care roll-out is an absolute disaster. Politically, it’s absolutely dead. I don’t think anybody believes it will ever pass the Senate. They never tried anything on taxes. Remember, they were going to do a trillion dollar infrastructure plan. Nothing that they like to talk about, nothing they like to brag about, none of their big stuff is working or, in many cases, they’re not even trying to make it work.”
Part of that can be attributed to the fact that most of the Trump administration has absolutely no experience with governing anything outside of their own household, and more than a few of them have failed in that endeavor, too.
Another reason Trump has frittered away his first 50 days can be laid directly at Trump’s feet: He is undisciplined, unfocused, and not the least be interested in policy. Instead, he’d rather post bullshit conspiracy theories on Twitter and try to bully reality to match his own twisted vision of the world.
If the next 50 days are anything like the first, Trump will likely go down in history as the biggest failure to ever hold the office.
