REVEALED: Just Days Before He Was Fired, Comey Had Requested More Resources For Russia Probe

Just days before Donald Trump relieved FBI Director James Comey of his duties, Comey had requested a significant increase in resources to continue the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election which now threatens to bring the Trump administration to a crashing end.

Three sources have informed the New York Times that Comey asked the Justice Department for “a significant increase in money and personnel for the bureau’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the presidential election.”

More damning is the fact that this request was made to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the very man who recommended that Comey be let go by the alleged president. Shortly after meeting with Rosenstein, Comey also briefed members of Congress on his request for additional funding.

Other reports say the timeline was actually much more compressed, with Comey asking for more resources on Monday and being removed from his position on Tuesday:

The Washington Post also confirms that Comey asked the Deputy AG for more resources:

The Department of Justice, however, is now in full denial mode, saying Comey never asked for any additional funding or personnel for the Trump-Russia investigation:

The Justice Department denial should come as no surprise as Rosenstein would be the person at DOJ who would have to appoint a special prosecutor in the case. Then again, if Rosenstein is this deeply involved in the firing of Comey, hasn’t he already proven that he cannot be trusted, just the same as his boss, Jeff Sessions?

From top to bottom, the way the Trump administration has handled the Russia probe reeks of cover-up and an attempt to shut down the investigation. But grand juries are already seated and indictments have been handed down, so firing Comey actually accomplished nothing more than making Trump look even guiltier than he did.

Earlier today, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell rejected a request from Senate Democrats to call for the appointment of an independent counsel in the Russia matter. That suggests McConnell is merely carrying water for the White House and could also be charged as being part of a larger conspiracy.

Long story short: Things are about to get much uglier for Trump and the Republicans who choose to defend him.
