Roger Stone’s Phone Conversations With Trump May Link POTUS To 2016 Hack Of Democrats

The trial of Roger Stone, a longtime friend and confidant of President Donald Trump, which started earlier this month in Washington, D.C., has exposed a possible link between Trump, Stone, Wikileaks, and the hack of the Democratic National Committee in 2016.

Talking Points Memo reports:

“Prosecutors revealed for the first time two phone conversations Roger Stone had with then-candidate Donald Trump at key moments during the hack and dissemination of Democratic emails in 2016.

“The prosecutor, Aaron Zelinsky, who also served on special counsel Robert Mueller’s team, cautioned that they did not know the content of those conversation, but prosecutors knew that the phone calls went through and lasted several minutes.

“The revelations came in Zelinsky’s opening statement at Stone’s trial. Stone is facing charges for lying to Congress about his Wikileaks-related communications and for tampering with another witness in the probe.”

Zelinsky also spelled out exactly why Stone had so eagerly lied on Trump’s behalf, even though he knew he was committing a felony when he did so:

“The evidence in this case will show Roger Stone lied to the House Intelligence Committee because the truth looked bad for the Trump campaign, and the truth looked bad for Donald Trump.”

While we haven’t yet learned what was discussed between Stone and Trump during those two phone calls Zelinsky referenced, prosecutors do have proof that shortly after one call in June of 2016, Stone reached out to someone who had connections to WikiLeaks via email, which would certainly seem to establish a link between the discussion Stone had with Trump and the outreach for hacked information from a server the DNC:

“‘About an hour after that call that Roger Stone had with then-candidate Trump, Roger Stone sent another email,’ Zelinksy said, asking a friend in London to try to contact WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.”

Prosecutors also told the jury about an email exchange between Stone and then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort:

“When Manafort asked why, Stone emailed back, ‘To save Trump’s a–. Call me please.’ Manafort was convicted last year of unrelated financial crimes and is in prison.

“During that critical summer 2016 period after WikiLeaks began releasing hacked data, Stone emailed Trump campaign strategist Stephen K. Bannon, Zelinsky told the jury.”

Stone to Manafort to Trump. The line can clearly be drawn. Does anyone think a notorious micromanager like Donald Trump told Manafort he didn’t want updates on the effort to get dirt on Hillary Clinton and the DNC?

Expect more revelations from the Stone trial that will implicate Trump and others who were part of the 2016 campaign. This, along with the ongoing impeachment inquiry, could well spell the end of Donald Trump’s presidency.
