Every revolution–be it real or imagined–must have someone who is in charge of propaganda. Because the first step to total control runs through the mind and the heart. If you can convince the masses that you are right and those who disagree are the enemy, there is virtually nothing you cannot do as a result.

In Nazi Germany, the person responsible for propaganda was Joseph Goebbels. Goebbels, a monster of a human being, compared the Jewish race to rats and said they were poisoning the entire German nation. They, Goebbels, alleged, were responsible for World War I. They were responsible for the fact that the German economy fell into a deep depression in the 1920s. Jews, Goebbels told the German people, were the greatest threat Germany had ever encountered.

On November 9-10, 1938, Germany was the home to what became known as Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass. Stormtroopers with the Nazi SA smashed the windows of businesses owned by Jewish citizens and killed nearly 100 innocent German citizens who were also Jewish. From that moment forward, anti-Semitism became the official policy of the Third Reich.

Yesterday, President-elect Donald Trump announced that Steve Bannon, CEO of Breitbart News, would be his Chief Strategist when he takes the oath of office in January and assumes the role as President of the United States. Bannon is a man who has made a career out of publishing horrible things about those he disagrees with. And, much like Goebbels, Bannon is also an anti-Semite, who, according to his ex-wife, once remarked:

“He said that he doesn’t like the way they raise their kids to be ‘whiny brats’ and that he didn’t want the girls going to school with Jews.”

As if that’s not bad enough, Bannon was also accused of domestic abuse and battery for allegedly grabbing at his wife’s neck and arm during a dispute. Any man who would strike a woman is, in my personal opinion, one of the lowest forms of life to ever crawl upon the face of the earth. I am the father of a girl, and had Bannon struck her, he would be unable to walk and require a wheelchair for the remainder of his miserable life.

So Steve Bannon will now have President Trump’s ear and advise him on countless subjects such as American policy towards Israel and women’s rights. I do believe that’s the very definition of the fox guarding the henhouse.

However, Trump hasn’t been sworn in yet and Bannon is not officially working in the White House, so there’s still time for the President-elect to change his mind. How about we all drop Trump a line over on Twitter–his all-time favorite form of communication–and let him know how we feel about Steve Bannon doing so much as emptying the trash cans at 1600 Pennsylvania. Steve Bannon is the 21 century equivalent of Joseph Goebbels, but we still have a chance to stop him before he is allowed access to the highest levels of American government.
