Ted Cruz Forgot To Sign Up For Health Insurance, So Now He’s Blaming Obama

Few people currently trodding the face of this earth hate the Affordable Care Act (ACA)–also known as Obamacare–more than Texas Senator and 2016 GOP presidential contender Ted Cruz. You may recall that he even insisted on shutting down the entire federal government over what was already an established law which has now been approved twice by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Yet, ironically, when Cruz’s wife, Heidi, took a hiatus from her job at Goldman-Sachs to join her husband’s campaign, the ACA actually guaranteed that the Cruz family was able to get new health insurance.

Until that is, now. Because now Teddy Boy is whining on the campaign trail that he and his wife have lost their health insurance. He said this at a campaign rally in New Hampshire just yesterday:

“I’ll tell you, you know who one of those millions of Americans is who’s lost their health care because of Obamacare? That would be me. I don’t have health care right now.”

But as is usually the case when Cruz’s lips are moving, that is only part of the story. Here’s the rest of it: Cruz didn’t lose his insurance, as he claims, he forgot to sign up for a new policy by the deadline. In other words, it’s his fault for being such a dumbass. And here’s a closer look at what’s happening with that:

Cruz’s family was formerly covered through a PPO plan with BlueCross BlueShield of Texas. But for 2016, that insurer has chosen to eliminate PPO plans and will now only HMO plans through the individual marketplace. The Cruz family was informed of this last July, meaning that Cruz has had five months to choose a new plan for his family. But he didn’t sign up in time because he’s been far too busy running around the country telling everyone how he plans to take away their healthcare if he’s elected to the White House.

I do believe that qualifies as perfect irony.

So please, don’t feel sorry for Ted Cruz and his family. If they don’t have healthcare right now, Ted can take an adoring look in the mirror and see the real reason.

Here’s Ted bemoaning his self-inflicted plight on CNN:
