Texas Governor Threatens President Obama On Twitter

It’s certainly nothing new when a member of the GOP decides to totally disrespect President Obama in an outrageous way. It practically happens every day of the week, 24/7 and 365 days a year.

But what Texas Governor Greg Abbott tweeted out recently in response to the President’s planned executive action on guns–to increase background checks nationally–is way over the line.

Here’s what President Obama had to say recently on the matter of guns and gun control:

“A few months ago, I directed my team at the White House to look into any new actions I can take to help reduce gun violence. And on Monday, I’ll meet with our attorney general, Loretta Lynch, to discuss our options… Because I get too many letters from parents, and teachers, and kids to sit around and do nothing. I get letters from responsible gun owners who grieve with us every time these tragedies happen; who share my belief that the Second Amendment guarantees a right to bear arms; and who share my belief we can protect that right while keeping an irresponsible, dangerous few from inflicting harm on a massive scale.”

Most rational Americans have been calling for action of this type ever since the tragic shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, back in December of 2012. But Governor Abbott and his fellow gun fetish freaks in the Republican Party seem to think this is a personal affront to them, an attempt to grab all the guns and impose martial law across the country. Nothing could be further from the truth, but why let facts get in the way of spreading fear?

Here’s what Abbott posted on Twitter New Year’s Day:

Let’s see, there’s a cannon in the image and he says for Obama to “come and take it.” Notice that he also makes sure to give a shout out to the NRA since he no doubt wants to kiss their butts and curry favor with all of the gun nuts who think they have a right to carry a weapon anywhere, anytime, for any damn reason whatsoever.

As you might expect, Abbott got lots of support from the Amen Choir of the far right, including conspiracy spinner Alex Jones on his show:

Sounds like a direct threat to the President of the United States to me. How about you? Actions have consequences, so I’d like to think the Secret Service would pay a visit to Governor Abbott and have a long talk with him. But something tells me they won’t.

And tomorrow, come rain or shine, another wingnut on the right will make a similar veiled threat–or even an outright one–and nothing will be done about that, either.
