Donald Claims Ivanka Has Created ‘Over 15 Million Jobs’ In The United States

With all the news that bombards us on a daily basis these days, it’s inevitable that you probably missed remarks President Donald Trump made recently during a call with business leaders to discuss financial relief to small businesses in the United States.

As you’d expect, most of what Trump said was imminently forgettable, but one thing he blurted out caught a lot of people’s attention. He claimed that his daughter, Ivanka, has created 15 million jobs all by herself. For the doubters in the audience, here’s the video:

If you’re not good in math, that means that Ivanka has created 10 percent of all the jobs in the United States, Vox notes:

“To put this claim in perspective, as of January — before the coronavirus pandemic caused the US economy to start hemorrhaging jobs — about 152 million people in the United States were employed, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. So Trump is claiming that his daughter created about 10 percent of all the jobs in the United States.

“Ivanka has apparently been working overtime in recent months: During a White House event last November, Trump claimed that his daughter has ‘gotten jobs for’ 14 million people. So, if one takes Trump’s statements at face value, she created a million jobs in just the past six months.”

Translation: There’s bullshit, and then there’s Trumpian bullshit, which is always much larger than the biggest dump that comes out of the most enormous longhorn steer on the planet.

What Trump was referring to when he invoked Ivanka’s name is something known as the Workforce Policy Board, which hasn’t created anywhere close to 15 million jobs. Matter of fact, that’s not even the purpose of the board:

“The workforce policy board Ivanka co-chairs works with private companies to get them to offer training opportunities to workers. According to the Washington Post’s Fact Checker, the fruit of that effort has been companies offering more than 6.5 million training opportunities to workers. That’s nothing to sneeze at — workforce development is important — but a training opportunity is not the same thing as an actual job.”

Since Donald Trump likes to make up bogus numbers, maybe he can also explain why 22 million people filed for unemployment over the past month is no big deal.

Next thing you know, Trump will be telling us Ivanka cured coronavirus. Then again, he’ll probably want to save that honor for himself.
