Trump May Forego Social Distancing Policy In Selfish Effort To Prop Up The Economy: REPORT

As he watches the American economy slip into recession and realizes that his reelection prospects are growing dimmer by the day, President Donald Trump is said to be losing patience with his administration’s medical experts and may well urge Americans to go back to the way things were before COVID-19 caused an almost total shutdown of the U.S.

According to Axios, Trump is signaling that he’s ready to make a complete reversal of the administration’s current coronavirus policy:

“Amid dire predictions for jobs and the economy, the White House is beginning to send signals to business that there’s light at the end of the tunnel — that the squeeze from nationwide social distancing won’t be endless.”

  • Trump tweeted at 10 minutes to midnight: “WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF. AT THE END OF THE 15 DAY PERIOD [which began a week ago, March 16], WE WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHICH WAY WE WANT TO GO!”
  • Vice President Pence, who heads the White House’s Coronavirus Task Force, had signaled the change in tone earlier when he said the CDC will issue guidance today allowing people exposed to the coronavirus to return to work sooner by wearing a mask for a certain length of time.

Such a move, however, could have catastrophic consequences.

If indeed Trump decides to ignore the advice of medical experts such as Dr. Anthony Fauci and encourage a return to “normal” despite the danger of the virus, he could be endangering the lives of millions and wind up making the outbreak last much longer.

Additionally, a signal to Wall Street that the administration is ignoring the scientific community could actually wind up doing more harm than good, with the stock market fearing the president has isn’t interested in controlling the spread of the disease and is merely acting out of selfish political motives.

Whatever he decides to do, it seems safe to assume that at the end of the day Trump will put his own interests ahead of anyone else’s. After all, that’s what he’s done his entire life.
