Trump’s Pick To Be Secy Of Defense Proves More–And Worse–Wars Are Ahead

Perhaps you’ve never heard of General James “Mad Dog” Mattis, the former Marine Corps officer who Donald Trump mentioned would be his choice to head the Defense Department. He’s well-known inside military circles, but not a household name until now.

Mattis is known to be an excellent military leader and possess a good intellect. But he is also one of the most hawkish people in the United States on the subject of war with Iran. Since we’re already involved in two conflicts in the Middle East, why not go for the hat trick?

So eager was Mattis for a conflagration with the Iranians that in 2013 he was suddenly replaced as head of U.S. Central Command.

Looking at the quotes below from Mattis, it seems clear that should he become Secretary of Defense, we will be mired in new wars across the globe. It’s going to be a very long four years.

“It’s quite fun to shoot them, you know. It’s a hell of a hoot. It’s fun to shoot some people.”

This came from Mattis in 2005 in regard to Afghanistan. So much for the days of General Sherman, who famously remarked, “War is hell.”

“Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.”

Mattis said this to a group of Marines in Iraq. Granted, in war one has to be vigilant and on the alert, but just the fact that Mattis believes this suggests he loves the idea of killing.

“I come in peace. I didn’t bring artillery. But I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you fuck with me, I’ll kill you all.”

Such was the advice Mattis gave Iraqi leaders following the invasion. With tears in his eyes? Somehow I kinda doubt that.

“There are some people who think you have to hate them in order to shoot them. I don’t think you do.”

Mattis added, “It’s just business.” Isn’t that what the mafiosos says right before they blow someone’s head off?

“There are some assholes in the world that just need to be shot.”

Hang on tight, everyone; it’s gonna be a damn bumpy ride.
