Overall, former President Obama has been very respectful and said almost nothing about Donald Trump since leaving the White House in January, but a new report reveals that Obama doesn’t hold the current resident of the Oval Office in very high esteem.
A story in the latest issue of People reveals that President Obama summed up Trump on election night, telling two friends when he got off the phone with Trump:
“He’s nothing but a bullshitter.”
Another source who’s close to the Obamas added:
“He’s deeply concerned with what he’s seen. But he’s also optimistic and heartened that citizens aren’t just watching it happen but engaging with neighbors and elected representatives at town halls.”
And former adviser David Axelrod said Obama has been careful to not be overtly critical of Trump, just as his predecessor, George W. Bush was:
“[Obama’s] very respectful of the appropriate role of a former president and that ex-presidents should not be looking over the shoulder of their successors and commenting on every decision.
“President Obama’s predecessor didn’t do that. Obviously, this now is a unique set of circumstances, but my sense is that he’s going to try and respect that tradition while reserving the right to speak out in given moments when things rise to that level.”
Mrs. Obama reportedly joked about Trump being in the White House, saying it had inspired her to wear black quite a lot:
“I’m going all black for the next couple of years.”
With the current head of state embroiled in multiple scandals and having possibly cooperated with the Russians to help assure his election, the dichotomy between how Obama and Trump ran the country is even more pronounced. For eight years we had a brilliant, caring, engaged leader running this country. Now we have a buffoon who thinks he can bully others to do whatever he wants, even if that means overlooking his criminal acts. God help us all.
