Wackobird GOP Congressman Louie Gohmert Compares Himself to MLK, Slams Immigrants

I don’t think it is in anyway an overstatement to say that Texas Republican Congressman Louie Gohmert is one of the biggest asshats to ever serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. The man cannot open his mouth without saying something that is racist, untrue, homophobic, anti-immigrant, or that attacks President Obama.

Today we have Congressman Gohmert, stopping by a radio show being hosted as part of the annual convention for FAIR–the Federation for American Immigration Reform–and adding his inane opinion to a discussion of what is wrong with the United States. And while he was at it, he also compared himself to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Miraculously, the roof did not collapse and fall on Mr. Gohmert’s head when he did so. Nor was he struck by lightning.

The Texas Congressman said:

“It’s usually the liberals that care more about race, they care more about gender and all kinds of, sexual habits. We don’t care about that stuff. Are you going to do the job, are you going to do what’s right, are you going to be honest? Those are the things that we’re more concerned about. In fact, we [conservatives] are coming closer to the dream of Martin Luther King, Jr. because we care more about the content of the character than we do the color of anybody’s skin.”

That statement is not only disrespectful to the memory of Dr. King, but also to anyone who possesses a functioning brain.

Gohmert then turned the discussion to one of his favorite topics, immigration:

“I could care less what race somebody is coming into America unless they’re coming to do harm, and even then I don’t care what race it is, I care about are you going to come do harm?”

Did you notice the Congressman’s use of the word “it” to refer to human beings? As if he’s talking about a dog, or a parrot, or even a donkey. Considering that this man is such a monumental jackass, that would be entirely appropriate.

The radio host then agreed with Gohmert and remarked that there is:

“(M)ore discussion of race in this country than in the last 20 years.”

Gohmert simply couldn’t resist and chimed in with this nugget:

“But I think that’s, a large part of that is because of this administration. They have been more polarizing.”

When in doubt, blame Obama. Some things never change, do they?
