WATCH A Trump Attorney Both Confirm And Deny His Client Is Under Investigation

Apparently if you want to be an attorney for President Trump, you have to be willing to say one thing one second and the opposite the next, much like the client you represent.

Such was the case with Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow when he appeared on Fox News Sunday and swore the president wasn’t being investigated for obstruction of justice. This, despite the fact that Trump himself confirmed he was under investigation with this tweet:

When Sekulow was asked about the tweet by Fox host Chris Wallace, he commented:

“He takes the action that [the Attorney General’s office] recommended and now he’s being investigated by the Department of Justice. He’s being investigated for taking the action that the attorney general and deputy attorney general recommended him to take by the agency who recommended the terminations!”

Naturally, Wallace pointed out the inconsistency in what Sekulow had said compared to what he maintained just a few minutes earlier:

“You’ve now said he is being investigated after saying [he isn’t].”

That’s when things got really weird, with Sekulow declaring:

“No, he’s not being investigated!”

WTF?! Is this an old Abbott and Costello routine updated for modern times?

Wallace:

“You just said he’s being investigated.”

Again, Sekulow claimed Trump isn’t under investigation, which led Wallace to exclaim:

“Sir, you just said two times that he’s being investigated. And he’s not just being investigated for firing Comey, there’s also what he said to Comey when Comey was still the FBI director.”

Trump’s attorney got truculent at that point, telling the host:

“I do not appreciate you putting words in my mouth. When I have been crystal clear that the president is not and has not been under investigation.”

Though he must have felt like he’d just been spun around three hours on a carnival ride, Wallace told Sekulow:

“You do not know that he has not been under investigation, sir. Actually, what I’m trying to get is a straight answer out of you.”

To that, Sekulow tried desperately to pretend it would be impossible to indict the president for any wrongdoing “because there is not an investigation.”

Flabbergasted, Wallace could only say:

“Oh boy, this is weird. You don’t know whether there is an investigation. You just told us that.”

Watch the weirdness for yourself:
