On more than one occasion, 2016 GOP contender Ben Carson has said that he believes being gay is a matter of choice. In other words, people choose to be gay; they are not born that way. This flies in the face of evidence to the contrary, but Carson has to keep the extreme right-wing Republicans happy.
Monday evening, during a campaign event in Staten Island, New York, Dr. Carson was confronted by an LGBT activist who repeated his words back to him, asking:
“I have a quick question. Do you think I chose to be gay?”
Rather than answering, Carson merely repeated the question:
“Did you choose to be gay?. That’s a long conversation.”
No, not really. And the woman then informed Carson:
“I think you’re full of shit.”
BOOM! Now that’s how you deal with a politician who refuses to answer a question!
You may recall that just last March, Carson had an exchange on this same question with Chris Cuomo, with Cuomo asking:
“You think being gay is a choice.”
“Absolutely. Because a lot of people who go into prison, go into prison straight, and when they come out they’re gay. So, did something happen while they were in there? Ask yourself that question.”
Really? What does one have to do with the other, Dr. Carson? This man may be a doctor, but as I’ve said many times, he is one of the most clueless individuals I’ve ever seen.
