For some reason, President Trump and members of his administration are having the toughest time saying anything negative about the alt-right/neo-Nazi terrorists who marched in Charlottesville, Virginia, Saturday, one of whom plowed his car into a crowd of counter-protesters, leaving one woman dead.

Sunday morning on CNN, Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert was asked by host Jake Tapper why the president didn’t specifically condemn the actions of the far right haters. Bossert replied:

“He believes that all Americans should have a conversation and an open debate on this matter. This violence cannot stand. He made that clear yesterday.”

Then Bossert tried to assert that not all of the right-wing jackasses who were marching are bad people. In other words, he was trying to make excuses for them:

“I’m sure there were good people that had various opinions on the maintenance or the removal of the (Robert E. Lee) statue. But what they found when they showed up were groups showed up from both sides looking for trouble, dressed in riot gear, prepared for violence.”

Tapper then asked:

“How many people did the counter-protesters kill yesterday, Mr. Bossert?”

The mealymouthed Bossert said that “one death is too many,” which led Tapper to remind him:

“The victim was a counter-protester!”

A defensive Bossert responded:

“Hold on, Jake! I don’t for one moment and I won’t allow you for one second to put me in a position of being an apologist for somebody who is now a charged murderer.”

But the CNN host was more than ready for Bossert, telling him:

“You just decried both sides. Here we have a situation, Mr. Bossert, where neo-Nazis, the Klan, Alt-Right and others went to Charlottesville, Virginia chanting antisemitic, anti-African-American and other racist slogans, provoking the people of Charlottesville, Virginia, making them feel intimidated. Yes, violence did break out. But one person was killed by one of these Alt-Right-Klan-Nazi protesters.

“And you just decried both sides! This is the issue.”

Bossert then decided he’d lie, the fallback position of every Trump administration official:

“No I didn’t. You’re making this issue a little bit distorted.”

What’s distorted is the view of this White House that some neo-Nazi/KKK/white supremacists are decent people who need to be respected and tolerated. But intolerance and domestic terrorism can never ever be tolerated by any sane, logical American.
