WATCH: Jane Sanders REFUSES To Let Sanders Supporter Disrespect Hillary Clinton (VIDEO)

The Democratic race for the 2016 nomination started out incredibly civil and issues-oriented, but in recent weeks things have turned a bit contentious, even downright nasty at times, with the Hillary Clinton camp questioning whether or not challenger Bernie Sanders is really a Democrat (Sanders is a lifelong Independent) and the Sanders campaign even going so far as to question whether or not Clinton is qualified to be President in light of the fact that she has accepted millions in campaign contributions from the banks and other corporate interests she criticizes in debates.

But earlier today on CNN, Jane Sanders quickly rushed to the defense of the former Secretary of State during an interview with Chris Cuomo. Cuomo asked Mrs. Sanders what she thought about Sanders campaign surrogate and healthcare activist Paul Song talking about “corporate Democratic wh*res” who might want to change the healthcare system.

Specifically, Song said:

“Medicare-for-all will never happen if we continue to elect corporate Democratic wh*res who are beholden to big pharma and the private insurance industry instead of us.”

Cuomo remarked of what Song had said to the media:

“That was translated as being code for something about Hillary Clinton. Do you believe that, and what do you want to say about that choice of words?”

Mrs. Sanders handled the question with the same cool, classy aplomb we have come to expect from her:

“I’m sorry, I didn’t hear it at all. Strange choice of words. And I can’t imagine anybody was speaking about Secretary Clinton that way. I don’t know who said that.”

And Jane Sanders then added this perfectly placed comment:

“All the campaigns really need to take some responsibility for what surrogates say.”

Compared to what we’re still seeing on the Republican side, this is refreshing to hear from anyone involved in the Democratic campaign. From the moment the GOP race began — thanks in large part to Donald Trump — there has been an endless barrage of personal insults, even going so far as to include the wives of the top two Republicans, Trump and Ted Cruz. And yet Jane Sanders would have none of it. Nice to see that one need not get down in the dirt in order to win a race for the White House.
