WATCH Jeff Sessions Admit The DOJ Is Doing NOTHING To Prevent Future Hacking Of Elections

In case you thought the U.S. Justice Department was working hard on trying to assure another country doesn’t hack our elections in the future, Attorney General Jeff Sessions made it clear during a hearing Wednesday that the DOJ isn’t doing a damn thing.

Appearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sessions stonewalled when asked questions related to President Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey. And then he was asked a question by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) about cybersecurity. Whitehouse asked Sessions if there was a person at the Justice Department responsible for making suggestions to lawmakers regarding efforts to guarantee that hostile entities don’t hack our elections like Russia did in 2016:

“Is there such a person, and what is his or her name?”

Sessions replied that person would be U.S. Attorney Dana Boente, but then added:

“I’ll be frank. I don’t know that we are doing a specific legislative review at this point.”

Clearly exasperated by the reply he had received from Sessions, Whitehouse commented:

“The silence has been deafening. If you could just get me the name of a person at the Department of Justice to work with the Senate on cybersecurity legislation, I think that would help move things.”

Instead, the AG told Whitehouse that many of his deputies had not yet been confirmed (probably because the White House has been negligent in nominating people fill thousands of positions).  However, Sessions said, he could have an attorney brief the senator in private. To that, Whitehouse said:

“I’m up to speed on that side. The issue is, there are things we need to fix legislatively on cybersecurity, and at the moment I can’t find a point of entry into this administration of anybody who is working on cybersecurity legislation. So that’s the person that I need — about legislation and not just an update on cases. I’m pretty familiar with that stuff.”

And at that moment it became clear that the Trump administration has no plans to increase efforts that would prevent hacking of our most sacred right, the vote. That alone speaks to their guilt in the 2016 election. Trump may need the Russians again, so why would he want to make it harder for his buddy Putin to screw this country another time?
