At a Donald Trump rally last night in Rock Hill, South Carolina, a Muslim woman wearing a T-shirt which read, “SALAM I Come In Peace” was escorted out of the venue by security officers.
The woman, later identified as Rose Hamid, told CNN’s Don Lemon that she went to the event so Trump supporters could “see what a Muslim looks like.” Hamid also wore a yellow Star of David with the word “Muslim” written on it. The yellow badge was used in Nazi Germany to identify Jewish individuals.
As Hamid was led escorted out, Trump, in his typical fashion, tried to place the blame on others, saying:
“There is hatred against us that is unbelievable. It’s their hatred, it’s not our hatred.”
It’s not your hatred, Donald? You’re the one who said we should ban all Muslims from coming to the United States and maintain a database of American Muslims. I seem to recall that you also remarked it might not be a bad idea to make Muslims in the United States wear a badge of some sort to clearly identify them. You know, like a Star of David.
Donald Trump represents what is most wrong with this country: the scapegoating, the placing of blame, the attempt to marginalize those who are different. Trump realizes that if he can divide the American populace and set one group against another, he can then rush into the chaos and present himself as the only true leader. It’s an old political strategy known as divide and conquer.
But what Trump isn’t counting on are the hundreds of millions of decent, caring Americans who see right through his bullshit and will not rest until he is defeated in the public forum and at the ballot box.
