Pinal County, Arizona Sheriff Paul Babeau has a bit of friendly advice he wants to impart to anyone who might be thinking of going hiking in his county: Be sure and take a gun with you, because you might just have to shoot some Mexican cartel members.
Babeau’s office issued a statement saying that Mexican cartels are sending out assassins–know as “sicarios,” for the purpose of killing rival cartel “rip crews” who have been known ambush the cartel’s drug runners and steal money and the drugs.
The sheriff also claims that multiple gun battles have broken out along the border and there’s has been a rise in armed conflict with what he classifies as drug runners.
Oddly, this is the first time Babeau has bothered to tell the general public about this alleged danger, and he also made sureto include a criticism of President Obama:
“It’s a distressing reality that President Obama is unwilling to protect the public from armed incursions across the border and well into Arizona. We are seizing thousands of pounds of their drugs and yet Obama’s response is to erect signs that warn American citizens that it’s not safe to travel.”
Babeau, it should be noted, is running for Congress in Arizona’s first congressional district. And like most Republicans, he wants to use fear and hatred in order to assure he’s victorious. The sheriff previously ran in the fourth district, but was defeated soundly because voters were able to see through his racism and fear mongering.
After he had issued his gloom and doom statement, Sheriff Babeau remarked:
“I’m telling our citizens that want to enjoy the outdoors to travel armed and not let these drug cartels think they have any control over American soil.”
Something tells me Babeau is a bigger threat than any alleged drug cartel activity on American soil.
