The bizarre joyride Donald Trump took on Sunday in which he endangered the lives of his Secret Service detail didn’t set well with many, including his own son, Donald Trump Jr., according to Gabriel Sherman of Vanity Fair, who reports that Junior thinks it may be time for an “intervention”:

“Sources said Donald Trump Jr. is deeply upset by his father’s decision to drive around Walter Reed National Military Medical Center last night with members of the Secret Service while he was infected with COVID-19. ‘Don Jr. thinks Trump is acting crazy,’ one of the sources told me. The stunt outraged medical experts, including an attending physician at Walter Reed.”

Sherman also reveals that two Republicans who are familiar with conversations taking place within the Trump family told him that Don Jr. had tried to convince his other siblings — Eric and Ivanka, along with Jared Kushner — that their father is acting strangely:

“Don Jr. has said he wants to stage an intervention, but Jared and Ivanka keep telling Trump how great he’s doing,” a source said. Don Jr. is said to be reluctant to confront his father alone. “Don said, ‘I’m not going to be the only one to tell him he’s acting crazy,’ the source added.”

However, others in the upper echelons of the White House were said to be very worried about the president’s all-caps tweets sent out Monday morning, which suggested he was in the throes of a manic episode:

“They’re all worried. They’ve tried to get him to stop tweeting.”

Of special concern is that such tweets and the drugs being administered to the president for the purpose of helping him face the ongoing attack from coronavirus could open him up to calls that the 25th Amendment be invoked to remove him from office:

“Trump has been prescribed drugs that medical experts say can seriously impair his cognitive function. Last night the New York Times reported that steroids, which Trump is reportedly taking, specifically dexamethasone, are known to “affect mood, causing euphoria or a general happiness.”

If his closest family members are suggesting that their father may have lost what was left of his mind, what does that suggest could happen in the closing days of the 2020 campaign? And what might a drugged-out Donald Trump do just to stay in power? Start a war? Impose martial law?

Whatever happens, the sooner this madman is out of the Oval Office, the safer all of us will be.
