BOOM! GOP Sheriff Opens Up Can Of Whoop Ass On His Party, Calls Them ‘Idiots’ (Video)

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand speaks at a news conference at the Sheriff Department headquarters in Harvey, La., Wednesday, April 14, 2010. The filming of the reality series, "Steven Seagal Lawman," featuring reserve deputy and martial arts movie star Steven Seagal, will be suspended for the time being, Normand said, because the continued filming would be a distraction for the department in light of allegations made against Seagal by a woman in a California civil lawsuit. If I told you that Newell Normand is the sheriff in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, and recently commented on his fellow Republicans, you’d probably think he was giving a speech on behalf of one of the 2016 GOP candidates. No doubt he’d be praising the GOP to the hilt and talking about how the Republicans are about to take back the White House in November.

But you would be wrong. Very wrong indeed.

Because at the Metropolitan Crime Commission’s annual awards luncheon on Tuesday, Sheriff Normand ripped apart today’s GOP and even took some cracks at former Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, whom he called “an idiot” and compared to the late cult leader Jim Jones.

Normand freely admitted that he had supported Jindal when he first ran to be Governor of Louisiana, but his opinion of Jindal has changed just a bit. Normand said of Jindal:

“What a mess. Bobby Jindal was a better cult leader than Jim Jones. We drank the elixir for eight years. We remained in a conscious state. We walked to the edge of the cliff and we jumped off and he watched us and guess what? Unlike Jim Jones he did not swallow the poison. What a shame.”

Damn! Tell us how you really feel, Sheriff Normand!

And Sheriff Normand was far from finished, indicting the entire Republican party with his criticism:

“We have to just say no! I’m a Republican but I’m not a hypocrite. We have to look at ourselves critically as a party and figure out where we are and what we’re going to be about.”

The GOP strategy of attempting to obstruct President Obama at every turn also drew the ire of the sheriff:

“And I have to listen to my Republican counterparts talk about gobbledigook. Blah, blah blah… And I’m so sick and tired of hearing: Obama, Obama, Obama. You know how much intellect it takes to blame something on somebody else? Propose a solution. Work together.”

How deep of a hole is your party in when an elected official from that same party calls you out and says you have no solutions? A hole so deep that it makes the Grand Canyon look like a molehill.

Take a look at Sheriff Normand’s remarks:
