If you’ve ever wondered how those who so blindly support Donald Trump can do so, the answer appears to be because they’re just as clueless as the GOP nominee himself.
Kathy Miller is the chairwoman of the Trump campaign in Ohio, and yesterday she decided to wax idiotic on the recent shootings of black men in Tulsa and Charlotte. Miller called the Black Lives Matter movement “a stupid waste of time.” But that was just the warm-up for what she said next. Racism, Miller asserted, didn’t even exist in the United States until President Obama came along:
“I don’t think there was any racism until Obama got elected. We never had problems like this. Growing up as a kid, there was no racism, believe me. We were just all kids going to school.”
Wow! Apparently Miller has indeed mastered the art of selective memory. Wonder if she’s ever heard of Rodney King or Bull Connor. Do the words Jim Crow mean anything to this dunce?
Miller also proved her lack of comprehension and a functional brain when she added:
“If you’re black and you haven’t been successful in the last 50 years, it’s your own fault. You’ve had every opportunity, it was given to you. You’ve had the same schools everybody else went to. You had benefits to go to college that white kids didn’t have. You had all the advantages and didn’t take advantage of it. It’s not our fault, certainly.”
The reporter who talked to Miller asked if she realized that her comments could be highly offensive to many Americans, especially African-Americans. Miller told the reporter:
“I don’t care, it’s the truth.”
The truth? Quite clearly, Kathy Miller–and the candidate she supports–wouldn’t recognize the truth if it walked up and hit them square in the head with a two-by-four.
UPDATE: Miller resigned late this afternoon and issued a statement:
“My personal comments were inappropriate, and I apologize. I am not a spokesperson for the campaign and was not speaking on its behalf.”
Holy cow, an actual apology! Trump should learn from this and apologize to President Obama for five years of endless birther bullshit.
