Medical experts tell us that one of the most effective ways to combat the spread of coronavirus is for everyone to wear a protective mask, practice social distancing, and keep their hands clean with frequent washing and/or sanitizing.
And yet, despite evidence supporting those practical steps that every American can take, Donald Trump has steadfastly refused to wear a mask, almost as if it’s a sign of weakness to do so. Then again, maybe he just thinks that if he wears a mask or encourages others to do so, it’ll draw attention to the fact that over 120,000 Americans have died as a result of the virus.
On Thursday, however, Trump tried to make it sound like anyone who wears a mask is merely trying to make a political statement and embarrass him, according to The Wall Street Journal:
“The president said testing for Covid-19 was overrated and allowed for the possibility that some Americans wore facial coverings not as a preventative measure but as a way to signal disapproval of him.
“’I personally think testing is overrated, even though I created the greatest testing machine in history,’ Mr. Trump said, adding that more testing in the U.S. led to an increase in confirmed cases that ‘in many ways, it makes us look bad.'”
That is some incredibly twisted logic.
Think about it: Trump is saying anyone wearing a face covering is merely trying to play politics and send a subtle message they don’t like him or support his policies. And on testing, he’s saying the more we test, the more cases we’ll be aware of, and that’s bad for him.
Translation: Screw you, this is all about ME.
Only a few months ago, this very same Donald Trump was urging us to wear a mask and insinuating that testing would be some sort of panacea. Then again, this is the very same man who said coronavirus would disappear in April, when the weather got warmer. Yet here is its June and over 1,000 people a day are dying of the disease.
Trump’s selfishness and cruelty should be the only two reasons any voter needs to cast a ballot for anyone but him. He truly doesn’t give a damn about anyone but himself. And that alone means he’s unfit to collect the garbage, let alone lead the most powerful nation in the world.
