Federal Judge Raises The Possibility Of Treason Charges In Russia Probe

In a Washington, D.C. federal courtroom Tuesday, U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan read the Riot Act to former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who was supposed to be sentenced today. Judge Sullivan told Flynn:

“All along, you were an unregistered agent of a foreign country while serving as the national security advisor to the president of the United States.

“That undermines everything this flag over here stands for. Arguably you sold your country out.”

The judge also asked prosecutors working for Special Counsel Robert Mueller if perhaps Flynn should have been charged with treason. They demurred when asked the question, but later said they didn’t think such a charge was appropriate for Flynn.

But while it may not be that Flynn committed treason, it does raise the larger question of whether or not such a charge could be brought against Donald Trump or members of his family.

No one is suggesting that Trump will be charged with treason, but the very fact that a federal judge raised that question means it’s on the table. And that could lead a grand jury to recommend such a charge if they’re so inclined.

Also, keep in mind that if Flynn’s actions of being an unregistered foreign agent are so serious (and they are), what does that suggest might be on the list of charges against Trump? Well, we have some suggestions of that, thanks to former Assistant Attorney General Jimmy Gurulé, who says he thinks Trump will be charged with:

  • Obstruction of justice
  • Violations of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act
  • Violations of the Federal Election Campaign Act dealing with fundraising
  • Violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act
  • Violations of IRS and tax law
  • Money laundering

You can add to that list the very serious felony of Conspiracy to Defraud the United States, which could also wind up causing Trump and his family to lose control of the Trump Organization. That would be the ultimate in karmic justice.

While it currently seems unlikely that the president or member of his family will formally be charged with treason, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility. As it is, they’re all facing the prospect of having committed felonies that would put them in prison for the rest of their lives.

Time to lock them all up and throw away the key.

It wasn’t the Democrats who put a lunatic conartist who would sell out his own mother for a buck and has never given a rats ass for this country in the White House.
