GAME OVER! Trump’s National Security Adviser Met With Leader Of Nazi Party

General Michael Flynn, who has been chosen by Donald Trump to serve as his National Security Adviser when Trump takes office in January, met recently in Austria with a man named Heinz-Christian Strache. Strache, it should be noted, is head of the virulently anti-immigrant Freedom Party, which was founded after World War II by former Nazis.

The meeting came to light when the New York Times was alerted to a posting on Strache’s Facebook page. Strache also announced that he had signed a “cooperation pact” with Russian President/mass murderer/terrorist Vladimir Putin.

Daniel Serwer, a former state department official who’s now a professor at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, had this to say about Flynn’s meeting with Strache:

“This is not just any opposition party: It is one with Nazi sympathies. Nor is Flynn any national security adviser. He is a documented conspiracy propagator. His long-term strategy colleague, Steve Bannon, is an ethnic nationalist and anti-Semite. The president-elect is an anti-Muslim and anti-immigration bigot.”

For some historical background it’s helpful to know more about the Freedom Party. Its first leader was Anton Reinthaller, who was an ardent supporter of the Nazi party as early as 1928. Reinthaller later served as a Nazi government official and was also a member of the notorious SS, the Nazi paramilitary organization-turned-secret police that carried out the majority of the Holocaust.

One can trace a clear line that runs from the Nazis all the way to the present day, not only in the Austrian Freedom Party, but also in the modern-day Republican Party as headed by Donald Trump. Trump is a fan of authoritarian rule, evidenced by his admiration of Putin. And the anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim tone of the Trump campaign is certainly consistent with what has been seen from other far right political groups across Europe, including in France and Germany.

The mere fact that General Flynn met with Strache should disqualify him from serving in any position whatsoever in the Trump Administration. Flynn is an embarrassment to the United States and should be shunned by anyone who cherishes democratic values. We helped defeat demons such as Strache in World War II, and Flynn has insulted the memory of the Americans who gave their lives to rid the world of Hitler and Nazism.
