According to Fox News commentator Geraldo Rivera, the 50 people who died at the Pulse nightclub are to blame because they didn’t fight back against their attacker. Yes, he actually sad that this morning on the Fox program “Fox and Friends.”

Rivera let loose with this bit of insensitive crap:

“When you’re in that situation and you have no weapons, you have two choices. If you can’t hide and you can’t run, you have two choices. You stay and die, or you fight. For God’s sakes, fight back. Fight back.”

Then this hack reporter who has never been worth his weight in salt added:

“There’s 100 people that he murdered with one weapon that he reloaded. When he reloaded they must, people must, America must understand, we are at war with Islamic terror, with these terrorists. We’ve got to stop them in Raqqa, we’ve got to stop them in Mosul, and we’ve got to stop them in the Pulse, Orlando.”

I cannot prove this, but I’m willing to be that if Geraldo Rivera had been at the nightclub and Omar Mateen had pointed a gun at him, he would have promptly soiled himself and begged for his life. Fighting back would not have entered his head.

Also, Rivera is apparently unaware of research which shows that mass shooter scenarios are  extremely chaotic situations where even experienced tactical personnel are known to freeze or become unable to fight back against their attackers.

What do law enforcement officials recommend the public do if they are in a mass shooting incident? They say you should try to escape the area ASAP. But they don’t suggest that a person fight back.

Maybe one day Geraldo will get a chance to prove his bravery. Until then, like most wannabe tough guys, he’s just talking out his ass.
