In order to be a cabinet member in the Trump administration, it’s required that you do as the boss does and lie about everything.
That was conclusively proven Sunday on Meet the Press when Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tom Price had the gall to tell host Chuck Todd that even if the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is repealed, no American will be worse off.
Todd asked Price:
“Can you say for certain that once this bill is passed that nobody will be worse off financially when it comes to paying for health care?”
Price responded:
“There are a lot of people worse off right now.”
The lack of an actual answer to his question led Todd to note:
“I notice you ducked the aspect of whether you can guarantee that nobody will be worse off financially.”
And that’s when the lies began, with Secretary Price stating:
“I firmly believe that nobody will be worse off financially in the process that we’re going through. Understanding that they’ll have choices that they can select the kind of coverage that they want for themselves.
“There’s costs that needs to come down, and we believe that we’re going to be able to do that through this new system. There’s coverage that’s going to go up.”
Here’s a translation of what Price said just in case you aren’t familiar with Republican double-talk and half-truth: People will have more choices of plans they cannot afford which offer halfway decent coverage, or they’ll be able to purchase piece of shit plans that are affordable but don’t cover anything beyond maybe an annual flu shot.
What Republicans are now trying to sell is the notion that you’ll have more options, which means more access to health insurance. But if that health insurance has high deductibles and doesn’t pay for much of anything, what good is it?
The GOP and Donald Trump are trying desperately to market a rotten lemon to the American people. And if they succeed, we all wind up getting screwed while their rich golfing buddies get huge tax cuts. So what if you die? At least some billionaire can now afford to buy a penthouse apartment on Fifth Avenue. And isn’t that what America really stands for?
