Mexico Offers To Help Hurricane Victims, So Trump Attacks Them (TWEETS)

On Sunday, the Foreign Minister of Mexico, Luis Videgaray, called Texas Governor Greg Abbott to offer aid to victims of Hurricane Harvey, which is causing unprecedented flooding in many cities. Later, the Mexican Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying they were happy to assist in any manner:

“As we have done in the past, Mexico stands with Texas in this difficult moment.

“The government of Mexico takes this opportunity to express its full solidarity with the people and government of the United States for the damages caused by Hurricane Harvey in Texas.”

Yet rather than thank the Mexican government for their offer of help, President Trump decided to fire up his Twitter account and attack them:

In response, Mexican officials noted that they would not pay for Trump’s proposed border wall because of “a principle of national sovereignty and dignity.” The Mexican government added that it wouldn’t negotiate any trade deal via social media.

On Trump’s assertion of violence in Mexico, officials for the Mexican government reminded Trump that violence in its country would “only end if its root causes are addressed: high demand for drugs in the United States and supply from Mexico (and other countries).”

So our neighbors to the south offer to help those who are suffering through a natural disaster, and Trump dishes out insults. Is this the way we’re supposed to deal with our allies? Wouldn’t it have made more sense to thank Mexico for their generous offer and leave the matters of NAFTA and a wall for another time? Instead, Trump goes into attack mode like a spoiled brat.

No matter how bad a situation is, you can always count on Donald Trump to make it even worse.
