The pre-dawn FBI raid on the Florida home of longtime Trump adviser and confidant Roger Stone Friday morning made one thing perfectly clear: Special Counsel Robert Mueller is working on busting the biggest fish of all in the Russia probe, and there’s more where this arrest came from.
Stone was indicted by a grand jury on charges of obstruction, lying under oath, and witness tampering, all of which he denies. He was released on $200,00 bond.
So, now that Stone has been charged — along with Paul Manafort, Rick Gates, and Michael Cohen — the question arises: Who will be next?
Clearly, Mueller is moving closer to the Oval Office, so it’s safe to say that some other senior officials from the 2016 campaign might want to be on the lookout for the knock at their door from federal agents. Here are the most likely suspects who are, to quote Stone, about to have their “time in the barrel”:
Donald Trump Jr: Junior was one of three people who attended that June 2016 Trump Tower meeting with Russian nationals who said they had “dirt” on Hillary Clinton they wanted to share. Don Jr. later said the meeting was about adoption, but has lied so much and so often that nothing he says can be believed.
Jared Kushner: Jared was also at the Trump Tower meeting, along with Don Jr. and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who is already facing decades behind bars.
Brad Parscale: Parscale was the digital media director for the 2016 Trump for president campaign, and his fingerprints are all over the social media disinformation campaign which was run in cooperation with Russian operatives.
President Donald Trump: According to a Justice Department memorandum, a sitting president cannot be indicted, but that has never been litigated in court. Also, many legal experts say Trump has already been indicted and those indictments are under seal. They will be unsealed as soon as Trump leaves office.
Stone’s indictment is a harbinger of what’s about to happen: We’re going to see a flurry of indictments in the weeks ahead, and each will bring Mueller even closer to the president.
Lock them all up!
