Newt Gingrich Admits: Trump Has No Strategy For Fighting ISIS, May Suspend Civil Liberties

On numerous occasions during the 2016 race for the White House, Donald Trump proudly declared that he would defeat the terrorist group ISIS in short order if elected. He even said he knows more about ISIS than the generals at the Pentagon do. Here, see for yourself:

Like with all things Trump, that turns out to be a complete lie, as Newt Gingrich acknowledged yesterday during an appearance on Fox News Sunday. Gingrich admitted:

“I don’t think they have a strategy. I think that what they know, which is important, is that they are gonna need a strategy.”

Yet for some reason Gingrich said he’s optimistic Trump and his advisers will be able to cook up a really great plan for defeating terror:

“They are going to be able to produce a very aggressive strategy. They have a much better grip on reality than the Obama administration did.”

Time to fact check that statement by Gingrich: Under President Obama, ISIS has been pushed out of Mosul and their one-time headquarters in Raqqa, and they are on the run in both Iraq and Syria. So what exactly is the “better grip” that Trump has? Is it in saying the magical words “radical Islamic terrorism” and suddenly all the bad guys disappear? Trump has repeatedly said those words and yet the attack on the Christmas market in Berlin still took place.

While he was at it, Gingrich also suggested that perhaps what we need to do in this country is suspend civil liberties until terrorism is defeated. In other words, eliminate everyone’s rights forever:

“People should go back and look at how Lincoln dealt with Southern sympathizers during the Civil War. We passed a Sedition Act for example, which changed our ability to control people who were advocating treason.”

Yes, if only we’d had a modern-day Sedition Act for the past eight years, we could have prosecuted traitors like Gingrich and Trump who were constantly alleging President Obama wasn’t really an American citizen, was secretly a Muslim, and was, in the words of Trump, “the founder of ISIS.” If a Democrat had advocated such a piece of legislation to deal with birthers, you would have heard Republicans screaming about tyranny and a police state. But when they want to do the same thing, suddenly it’s in the name of national security. Their hypocrisy truly has no limits.
